Barcelona is a province, NE of Spain, in Catalonia. Badalona (Baetulo in Roman times) is a city in Catalunya, in the comarca of el Barcelon near the city of Barcelona, on the left bank of the small river Bes and on the Mediterranean Sea. It is a Mediterranean port and an important industrial suburb of Barcelona, with textile, chemical, leather, and glass manufactures. Add up to its produce are also gas, chemical and mineral-oil works in the town, which also manufactures woolen and cotton goods, glass, biscuits, sugar and brandy; while the surrounding fertile plains produce an abundance of grain, wine and fruit. Badalona thus largely contributes to the export trade of Barcelona, and may, in fact, be regarded as its industrial suburb. It is also a station on the coast railway from Barcelona to Perpignan in France, and a small harbor, chiefly important for its fishing and boat-building trades. It has a population of 205,836 in city and 4,228,048 in the metro.
