Music festivals

There is no other place on earth where music is as celebrated as it is in Barcelona. For instance, the S music festival , dedicated to the latest electronic music, generates an average of 45 million euros for the Catalan economy. To give further proof to this, the Auditorium, the Liceu opera house and the Palau de la Música , concert halls accumulate audiences of more than half a million each year in Barcelona . Adding to the sixty concert halls in the city, two new ones have opened, the Sala Castelló and the Apolo to serve to the ever increasing demands of the music industry.

In this city, there is a larger network for music than in the rest of Spain , allowing Barcelona to have a continuous and varied music program. Music has become such an integral part of the city that it is impossible to ignore the social, tourist, and cultural impact of music on the city. There are many references to the sound and groups made in Barcelona . As well as live music, and despite the apparent crisis in the record industry, Barcelona has more than fifty record companies, many independent. A highlight for new groups is La Colazione , a collection of cover albums with groups from Barcelona , under the Strange Ones label, with the collaboration of Audiomayer .

The major music festivals here are, as mentioned, the S , which attracted an audience of almost 90,000 last year, and Primavera Sound , which had an audience of 45,000. These run alongside more modest festivals such as LEM , the festival of experimental music which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. Another major festival is BAM, observed during the Festival of La Merc , and a new festival in July, Summercase , at the Olympic Ring in Montju .

There are smaller festivals and concerts in the city, as well as the regular program of concerts offered by the majority of concert halls. They usually offer a regular season of specialized music. The Mond Club , which was based at the Sala Cibeles , returns, and from 27 April will offer sessions at the Club Fellini on the Rambla . There is also Rawal Launch at the Paloma , which recently had its first anniversary, and fuses music with other artistic disciplines.
