Over the years Barcelona FC has become a part of the city. The club is over a 100 years old (founded in 1899) and has a rich history of European success. One of the most important players in the history of the club was not from Catalonia. In 1974 FC Barcelona saw a new club legend arrive to the stadium - Johan Cruyff. He was an established player at his club AFC Ajax and a Dutch International. He quickly conquered the hearts of the Catalans, by declaring that he didn t want to play for Madrid because the club was associated to Franco. In his first season he was the key player when Bar won their first Liga title since 1960. Including a 5-0 win over rival Real Madrid.
