Barcelona Weather Forecast

Over the years Barcelona FC has become a part of the city. The club is over a 100 years old (founded in 1899) and has a rich history of European success. The people are very connected to the club and nicknamed it Barça . The people of Catalonia feel like it s an autonomist region, and see the players as warriors, fighting against Spain. Especially when playing Real Madrid, the main club from the Capital of Spain. During the regime of General Franco, the stadium of FCB was the only place where people could speak Catalan freely.

For this reason there have been several Catalan-Barcelona players that refused to play for the national team of Spain. Oleguer is a Catalan and played 8 years for Barcelona. He always used to say: defending for Barcelona is defending for Catalonia .

The most remarkable player in the current squad is Andres Iniesta. He was born in Albacete, which is close to Valencia. The top clubs in Spain saw the talent of the little Andres and he got offers from Valencia, Real Madrid and Barcelona at the age of 12. Living in Albacete Valencia or Real Madrid would be a logical choice. The little Iniesta decided to move to the other side of Spain to join Barcelona. The supporters of Bar welcomed him with open arms for his choice.

Together with Real Madrid they are the biggest club in Spain and in the world. In Spain, about 25% of the people are said to be Barça supporter . Worldwide there are about 1800 officially registered supporter-clubs.

Barcelona FC
One of the most important players in the history of the club was not from Catalonia. In 1974 FC Barcelona saw a new club legend arrive to the stadium - Johan Cruyff. He was an established player at his club AFC Ajax and a Dutch International. He quickly conquered the hearts of the Catalans, by declaring that he didn t want to play for Madrid because the club was associated to Franco. In his first season he was the key player when Bar won their first Liga title since 1960. Including a 5-0 win over rival Real Madrid.

When visiting Barcelona it s recommended to pay a visit to the stadium. There is a big FC Barcelona museum which takes you on a ride along the amazing history of this club. The slogan of the club is: més que un club! , meaning more than just a football club in Catalan.
