The Gothic Quarter is the heart of old Barcelona and is just a couple of blocks to the north-east from la Rambla. It s a maze of small dark streets with lots of cafes and bars. The Gothic Quarter is a warm and friendly district with the cheapest accommodations in Barcelona.
The Gothic Quarter Barcelona was built in a medieval gothic style. Most of the buildings date from the 14th and 15th century.

The city of Barcelona is still growing; the Gothic Quarters is a very popular district for hotels. So you are likely to see an old medieval building next to one that s build in the 90´s.
Around the Cathedral, one of Spain's greatest Gothic buildings, you can still see parts of the ancient walls. In the centre of the quarter you will find the Pla de Sant Jaume , a square and the site of a busy market and one of the venues for the weekly dancing of the sardana. The square of Sant Jaume was a Forum in the time of the Romans. There still are some ruins which you can visit.
In Calle Paradis, on top of the mountain Táber, you will find an old millstone. This is where Iberian tribes lived long before the time of the Roman Empire.
The Gothic quarter is a good district to have some fun. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to discover. The main square is the Placa Reial, which is always busy. The Gothic Quarters has a good nightlife as well. There are always people in the streets.
