Barcelona Weather Forecast

The second football club of Barcelona is RCD Espanyol . A unique situation is that their stadium lies next to Camp Nou, the stadium of cities rival FC Barcelona. That will change in 2009 when they will move into their new stadium. On their official website you are able to follow the construction, with updates every week. Their current stadium is the Estadi Olimpic, which was use during the Olympics in 1992. RCD Espanyol started in 1.900 when a group of university students decided to creat a football team. RCD Espanyol Barcelona

Espanyol are one of several Spanish football clubs granted patronage by the Spanish crown and thus entitled to use Real in their names and the royal crown on their badge. This right was granted to Espanyol in 1912 by Alfonso XIII and the club subsequently became known as Real Club Deportivo Español.

Although the club has to stand in the shadow of big brother FCB, it has been successful during the past century. Overall they are the 6 th most successful club in Spain.

RCD Espanyol is the only club in the world that remained unbeaten in the UEFA cup tournament without winning it. In 2006 they reached the final against Seville. The final ended in a draw and they lost the game trough a shootout.
